Any employer who is likely to expose their employees to asbestos, will be required to ensure their premises or premises where their employees work, have access to an asbestos register and their employees have been given suitable Asbestos Awareness Training, this will include persons involved in the refurbishment, repair or maintenance of buildings - such as general maintenance staff, plumbers, carpenters, electricians, gas fitters, construction workers and IT installers to name but a few.

This new Asbestos Training requirement coupled with the ‘Duty to Manage’ Asbestos in premises; where persons who manage buildings are now required to ascertain whether they have asbestos in their premises and then manage it accordingly, will ensure that future generations who could be exposed to Asbestos such as general maintenance staff, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, gas fitters, joiners, plasterers, demolition workers, construction workers, roofers, H&V engineers, telecom engineers, fire and burglar alarm installers, IT Systems installers and building surveyors are not affected by asbestos related diseases.
