MITIE and Shield Environmental Services sign Date: 24 July 2010 Shield Environmental Services Ltd are pleased to announce that as of 1st June 2010 that they are MITIE Technical Facilities preferred contractor for asbestos and insulation works. Following on from a comprehensive pre qualification exercise and a series of discussions between Ben Curtis, on behalf of MITIE Technical Facilities Management, and Julian House from Shield Environmental, a procurement agreement has been signed between the two companies. The services to be undertaken by Shield Environmental include the supply and installation of insulation material, environmental surveys, and specialist asbestos removal. Julian House from Shield commented, “Shield Environmental are really looking forward to working with MITIE and providing a professional service to MITIE and their clients.” MITIE merged with Dalkia Technical Facilities Management in August 2009 to form MITIE Technical Facilities Management (MTFM), making them the largest Technical Facilities Management team in the UK. MITIE are committed to not only manage client’s property costs effectively, but also manage their carbon efficiently. They provide strategic outsourcing services, and have now included Shield Environmental to their portfolio of contractors. Shield Environmental are a Type C asbestos inspection body and hold UKAS accreditation to ISO/IEC 17020 (EN45004) for surveying asbestos in premises, ensuring all legislation requirements are met with regards to Quality Assurance, Technical Competence and Site Safety. In order to satisfy MITIE requirements Shield Environmental had to demonstrate the competence and capability of the company. This included providing a summary of the financial situation and stability of the organisation, their insurance policies, approved accreditations, industry awards and Health and Safety procedures. Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental Issues are paramount to Shield’s operations; their commitment to this is demonstrated by the attainment of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and BS OHSAS18001 accreditations.
