Shield Environmental are delighted to offer our support to the Construction Youth Trust (CYT) in assisting young people whose journey to work can be challenging due to difficulties relating to their financial circumstances, lack of awareness of employment opportunities, low self-esteem, and barriers experienced because of gender or ethnicity.

Mobile classrooms have been set up across South Wales to provide taster sessions in a variety of different skills from Plumbing, Health & Safety, Bricklaying, Home Maintenance, Design, Tiling, Painting & Decorating and Project Management. These mobile classrooms are operating in Newport, Cardiff, Caerphilly, Abertillary, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Port Talbot and Swansea.

Shield is supporting CYT by providing five new places for beneficiaries aged between 14-30 years, who are from a variety of social circumstances ranging from school and college students, young offenders and the homeless. The project aims to work with those hardest to reach and remove barriers for young people to enter into the construction industry through tasters, career advice and guidance, practical sessions such as site visits and work placements.

Managing Director Phillip House commented, "We are delighted to be working with the Construction Youth Trust; supporting young adults to find work within the construction industry is a rewarding experience and will hopefully have a lasting impact on their career choices and ambitions. By offering our support and knowledge of the asbestos industry, we hope to ensure that young adults entering into the construction industry are fully aware of the dangers associated with asbestos related materials"
