Kier, Cannington Court
Specialist Cleaning (Lead)
Shield Environmental Services was contracted by Kier Construction to carry out the removal of lead contamination from Cannington Court in Somerset.
The scope of works was to environmentally clean the roof spaces throughout Cannington Court under fully enclosed conditions to protect the removal staff and prevent further contamination throughout the building.
Some ceiling areas had to be removed in order to gain access to the roof space and to carry out the environmental clean. A section of the roof area was domed (Clifford Hall dome) and in order to access to the required height Shield staff had to be rope access trained. All waste was disposed of as lead-contaminated hazardous waste.
Environmental cleaning was carried out using H-type vacuums on all non-vertical surfaces including floors, cills, tops of skirtings, architraves, ledges, picture rails etc. We also carried out cleaning of floor boards and damp mopped across all surfaces. All cleaning equipment and waste was double bagged and disposed of as hazardous waste.
All operatives involved with the lead removal works had blood samples taken by Clarity Healthcare to monitor any lead exposure to ensure the safety of our employees. On completion of the works all operatives also went through a full medical to ensure they remained in good health.Download Case Study PDF
